LASIK surgery is an outpatient surgery usually performed in an office or outpatient surgery center. The purpose of the procedure is to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. A laser is used to reshape the cornea, which is the clear, front part of the eye. By reshaping the cornea, this improves the way the eye focuses light rays onto the retina (which is located at the back of the eye), allowing for improved vision.
